The Spanish manager was brought into tears while bidding farewell to the Argentine sharpshooter – but he is now being accused of faking his emotions.
Pep Guardiola was “never sincere” with Sergio Aguero, claims the player’s father as he launches a scathing on the manager over the treatment of his son.
Manchester City decided against renewing the contract of club legend Aguero, who was presented as an FC Barcelona player earlier this week, with Guardiola understood to have had a major say in the decision.
Aguero parted ways with the Sky Blues after 10 incredible years of service. Some of his achievements include becoming the club’s all-time top scorer, scoring most Premier League goals for one club, taking over the record of most league hat-tricks from Alan Shearer, beating Thierry Henry as the foreign player with most goals in the English top-flight, and, of course, famously clinching the title for City in the final minute of their final game of the 2011-12 Premier League campaign.
The Argentina international departed the Etihad as arguably the most important player in City’s history and as one of the best strikers of this generation, leaving Guardiola tearful.
“I don’t believe his tears, he was never sincere with my son,” claimed Aguero’s father, talking on Radio La Red. “In my opinion, he never wanted him.
“Guardiola is a great coach, but he always wants to be the main figure in his teams. From one day to the other, he changes the players or the midfield. The players never know if they’re important or not.
“He said Sergio couldn’t be replaced, but now he’s not in the squad.”
