Guardiola has responded to transfer rumors linking the Manchester City striker with a free transfer to a rival Premier League club.

Pep Guardiola insists he only wants what’s best for Sergio Aguero as the Argentine prepares to leave Manchester City in the summer.

Aguero, who has spent the last decade at the Etihad Stadium, will leave City once his contract ends in June. Several clubs, namely Barcelona, are reportedly interested in him. Staying in the Premier League with Chelsea, however, could be another possibility.

What Aguero decides next, though, isn’t Guardiola’s concern. The City manager has no preference as to where the striker ends up and insists ‘my preference is his preference’.

“The best for him, we wish – all of us,” said Guardiola on the possibility of Aguero staying in the Premier League as quoted by The Guardian.

“Find the best for Sergio for the last years in his career, for sure. We’ll be delighted with the decision he takes, the best for him and his family and his career.

“My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us.”

Aguero, who has struggled with injury and illness this season, has scored three goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.

The 32-year-old is back in Guardiola’s team, however, and hopes to end his time in Manchester on a high. As things stand, he can still win a quadruple in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.

Aguero will hope for a chance in the line-up for City’s trip to Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
