As the winners of the AFCON, Senegal dominated the tournament’s individual awards.

Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties to win their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday. Sadio Mane converted the decisive penalty for the Lions of Teranga, completing his incredible AFCON campaign.

The Liverpool forward won the Man of the Competition award for his great influence on Senegal’s success. He scored three goals and provided two assists in his side’s seven games at the tournament.

Mane’s teammate Edouard Mendy won the prize for the tournament’s best goalkeeper. The Chelsea forward kept five clean sheets for the Lions and saved a crucial penalty in the final.

The new trophy completes Mendy’s amazing last few months. The Chelsea keeper won the Champions League with Chelsea last season before securing the Best Goalkeeper of the Year award from FIFA in January.

Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar won the tournament’s top-scorer award. The 30-year-old striker scored eight goals during the tournament while securing the competition’s bronze medal with the hosts.

Issa Kabore who played a key role in Burkina Faso’s run to the last-four stage won the award for the best young player of the tournament. The 20-year-old right-back is a Manchester City player who is currently on loan at Fench side Troyes.

Mane and Mendy will soon return to England to join their respective clubs. Liverpool will have Mane and Mohamed Salah back in time for their Thursday’s clash against Leicester City. On the other hand, Mendy will join Chelsea’s squad in Qatar, where they will play their first Club World Cup game against Al Hilal on Wednesday.
