Mohamed Salah will attempt to guide Egypt to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations for the eight-time in their history.
Mohamed Salah has expressed what it would mean for him to lift the Africa Cup of Nations for Egypt ahead of their quarter-finals.
The Liverpool star netted the winning penalty on Wednesday night as the Pharaohs beat Ivory Coast by 5-4 in the shootout.
Salah has four major silverware to his name at the club level including the Premier League, and the Champions League. However, so far, he has not celebrated a successful trophy with his national side.
Sadly so, the 29-year-old made his debut for Egypt in 2011 which was a year after claiming their seventh AFCON title. Later, Salah could not clinch victory over Cameroon in the final of the tournament.
The African superstar talked about the importance of winning the final for the eighth time for his country.
He said after the win over the Elephants: βOf course, I want to win something with the national team. Itβs my country, what I love the most. This trophy for me would be completely different, would be the closest to my heartβ
βWe were close before to win this African Cup (in 2017). We gave it everything but we were not lucky to win it. But itβs ok, now we are here in the new one.β
βWe have to fight for it, we have to give everything to win it. And Iβm sure the players have the same feeling.β
