The Senegal star says his side must rely on their experience to win the tournament.
Senegal reached the Africa Cup of Nations final for the second time in a row when they defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 on Wednesday. Similar to their previous games, Sadio Mane was central to his side’s victory.
The Liverpool star provided an assist for Senegal’s second goal before scoring the third goal himself. Mane and his teammates are now only one step away from making history in Cameroon. They have the chance to win the continental cup for the first time in Senegal’s history, and Mane knows what will help them pass their final test.
“Experience is a good asset,” Mane said, as per Reuters. “I think that has always been the case since the start of this tournament. We suffered so much with a lot of Covid cases and several injuries too.
“We had a very difficult time but with our experience we kept calm until we recovered the whole group.
“We played a final last time, so we have experience and we will try to win this trophy.”
He added: “There are a lot of leaders in this team because we have a lot of great players and a lot of mature players,
“Everyone is making a contribution so that the team can move forward.”
Cameroon host Egypt in the AFCON’s second semi-final tonight. The winner will face Senegal in the final Sunday.
