AFCON 2021 games will have limitations on the number of spectators in stadiums as Cameroon continues to battle Covid-19.

Attendances at the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 will be brought down to 80 per cent for the matches involving the hosts, Cameroon. Whereas, all the other games will hold spectators up to 60 per cent of the stadium capacity.

The organisers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced these changes as the country keeps battling the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. In fact, the decision was made with the consultation of the Cameroonian government.

Obviously, the supporters attending the games must be fully vaccinated and show a negative test result. According to stats, only 2 per cent of the population in Cameroon have received both antivirus shots.

However, there has been an increase in the vaccination levels as they wish to cheer their favourite football stars at the major tournament.

A statement from African football’s governing body read: “Following extensive consultation with the Cameroon government in the light of the health crisis and the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, CAF and the Local Organising Committee have agreed to cap the capacity of the stadiums during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021, between 60% and 80%.”

“The 80% capacity will apply only during host nation, Cameroon matches. While the rest of the matches will be capped at 60% capacity.”

“Caf will continue to monitor the situation and the evolution of the health conditions and adapt measures if needs be.”
