The Portuguese youngster broke a 19-year-old record to put AC Milan ahead in their Serie A match on Sunday.

Rafael Leao has become the fastest goalscorer in Serie A history after taking just 6.2 seconds to score against Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

Hakan Calhanoglu instigated the landmark goal for AC Milan by running straight to the Sassuolo defense from the first whistle before teeing up Leao to smash the ball past goalkeeper Andrea Consigli from the center of the box.

The 21-year-old’s strike was recorded at 6.2 seconds, which surpasses Paolo Poggi’s record of 8.1 seconds against Fiorentina in December 2001.

Alexis Saelemaekers has since doubled AC Milan’s lead in Sassuolo to ensure a comfortable advantage at half-time.

The Rossoneri, who are again without top-scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, hope to grab all three points to keep their slender one-point lead over city rivals Inter at the top of the Serie A standings.
