Ahead of their Champions League opener with Liverpool, AC Milan have lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to an untimely injury.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to play no part in AC Milan’s Champions League clash with Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The 39-year-old has suffered an Achilles injury and, therefore, will miss Milan’s trip to Anfield. He only returned to action last Sunday from injury against Lazio, scoring in a 2-0 victory.

Ibrahimovic’s appearance last weekend was his first since May 9, when he came off in the second half of a 3-0 win over Juventus. The Swede suffered a knee problem, which ruled him out for the rest of the previous campaign.

“He ended Milan-Lazio with tendon inflammation. Today he tried to train but will not be risked,” Milan manager Stefano Pioli told Sky Sport Italia about losing Ibrahimovic.

Who else is missing for AC Milan?

Tiemoue Bakayoko and Rade Krunic will join Ibrahimovic on the sidelines ahead of Milan’s showdown with Liverpool. Therefore, Franck Kessie could partner with Sandro Tonali in central midfield again.

With his main striker out, Pioli may call on former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud or Ante Rebic to lead the attack on Wednesday.
