The Rossoneri striker has suffered an ankle injury ahead of the Milan derby.

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud is out of France’s squad for their upcoming match against Germany due to an injury.

Giroud started for France as they defeated Ireland 2-0 in a European Championship qualifier on Thursday. However, an ankle injury forced him to limp off the pitch in the 26th minute.

Didier Deschamps replaced Giroud with Marcus Thuram, who went on to score Les Bleus’s second goal of the night. A new report from L’Equipe claims the manager has excluded Giroud from his squad for an upcoming friendly against Germany.

The French source claims Giroud has undergone tests on Friday, which showed no serious issue in his ankle. The striker will now travel back to Milan, where he continues his rehab process at the club.

Giroud’s injury was a major shock for Milan ahead of their upcoming derby against Inter. The Frenchman has found a fantastic start to the new Serie A season, registering four goals and one assist in three matches.

It seems that Giroud will return in time to play for his side on September 16. Only three days after their clash against Inter, Milan will face Newcastle in a crucial Champions League battle at San Siro.
