The Portuguese striker’s current contract expires in 2024.
AC Milan have denied reports claiming there was a rupture in their contract negotiations with Rafael Leao.
The Rossoneri have not been able to find a breakthrough in their prolonged talks with their star striker’s representatives.
Earlier this week, a report on La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Leao could leave Milan after an alleged “rupture” in the negotiations.
The Rossoneri, however, have hit back with an official statement, confirming the talks are still ongoing.
“With regard to the article published today by the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport entitled: ‘Leao Milan total rupture’, AC Milan would like to clarify that the negotiations with Rafael Leao have not been interrupted,” wrote the club in a statement posted to Twitter.
“The suggestion of an alleged frost between the parties is not only totally unfounded but also harmful to the club and its player. In fact, AC Milan continues the dialogue with Leao and his entourage in a serene and professional way.”
Fabrizio Romano shared Milan’s tweet, with Leao then showing his approval with an emoji under the Sky Sports journalist’s post.
Milan are eager to extend Leao’s deal as soon as possible, hoping to avoid a transfer next summer. The Portugal international has attracted attention from a host of elite clubs, who could push to sign him below his market value in the next transfer window.
