AC Milan are punching below their weight and deserve the very best football stadium in the world, says club CEO Ivan Gazidis.
For a club of their status, AC Milan should be doing much better ‘business’, according to club CEO Ivan Gazidis.
Despite a barren run of trophies in the past few years, the Rossoneri maintain a spot as one of Europe’s most prestigious sides based on history and nostalgia.
A trophy count of 48 sees Milan as the joint-seventh side in Europe with the most trophies to their name.
Moving on to their shared stadium with Inter, the San Siro boasts a massive capacity of 80,018 spectators. Despite the impressive number, three other clubs in Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Dortmund, alongside Wembley and Stade De France, means the Rossoneri only have the sixth-largest ground in Europe.
Milan and Inter already have plans for a new-joint €1bn stadium in the works and Ivan Gazidis claims they indeed deserve the best stadium in the world.
“The fundamental question is the brand, Milan are the fifth most followed club in the world, a sign that the Milan brand is recognized everywhere,” he said in the Web Summit 2020 on Thursday.
“The size of our business is much smaller than the top four at the moment and this represents a great opportunity in terms of potential growth.”
“Milan deserves the best stadium in the world and we will try to give it to them,” Gazidis added.
“It is an exciting project, where the game will remain the central element, as well as the human interaction, the live experience. Digital projects will not affect this process.”
