Stefano Pioli’s men secured a narrow win at San Siro to have the advantage in the second leg.
AC Milan defeated Tottenham 1-0 in their Champions League game on Tuesday. A perfect start from the Rossoneri was enough to ensure their victory at San Siro.
A hard-fought win!
Milan were quick in establishing their dominance over the game, pushing for an early breakthrough.
The Rossoneri got what they were looking for when Brahim Diaz opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Fraser Forster made a brilliant double save before Diaz put the ball past him with a header from close range.
Tottenham tried to increase the pace of the game after conceding the goal. But Antonio Conte’s men couldn’t match their opponents’ physicality.
Harry Kane hitting the bar was the Spurs’ only serious chance before the break, but even that was offside.
Milan slowed down the game even more in the second period. By keeping the game in midfield, the hosts avoided counter-attacks from Tottenham while preventing them from building up attacks from their own half.
Milan found two golden opportunities to double their lead later on. But both Junio Messias and Charles De Ketelaere missed their headers from close range.
The two sides will meet again for the second leg in London on March 8.
