The Spaniard will have to leave friendships off the pitch when he goes against his former teammates.

Sergio Ramos asserts although his “affection and love for Real Madrid won’t ever change,” he will “go to the death with” Paris Saint-Germain.

Ramos and Real Madrid were, not too long ago, synonymous with each other. The two have a rich history together, with the player giving 16 years of service to the club and leading them to an impressive 22 major honors including five La Liga and four Champions League titles.

The distinguished defender now has an unpleasant task at hand – to try and put an end to the European journey of the team of which he served as a captain for many years, with Real Madrid having gotten PSG as opponents for the Champions League Round of 16 draw.

“I’d have liked us to draw another team, but that’s how it is,” said Ramos (via ESPN).

“You know the affection and love I have for Real Madrid, that won’t ever change. Now I have to face the present. I play for PSG.”

“It’s a mixture of feelings. I’d have liked not to have had this tie, but on the other hand coming home to the Bernabeu, I had the best years of my life here and not having had a goodbye because of COVID, it’s gratifying.

“I’d have liked it to be another way but that’s football. I have to defend my team. I’ll go to the death with PSG.”
