Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as Arsenal secured a narrow win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

After seven games without a win, the Gunners recorded back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time since October. Lacazette spared his side’s blushes as Arsenal claimed a 1-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday night.

The Gunners were not as dominant as they were in their 3-1 Boxing Day win over Chelsea at the weekend. However, only a few seconds were needed to change the game.

Lacazette lost his spot in the starting lineup to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but he would still go on to make his mark in the game.

Arteta sent the Frenchman on for Martinelli in the second half and it proved to be an inspired substitution. The forward was only on the pitch for 29 seconds before he found the left corner with a brilliant strike following good work from Bukayo Saka.

Brighton had good spells in the game but the Gunners held on to finish their last game of 2020 with a win and a clean sheet.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta was pleased with the instant impact by Lacazette and insists it is every manager’s ‘dream’ to have a player like that.

“I think this is what all the managers dream of, to bring people off the bench and they win you the game like he’s done tonight!” the Gunners boss said to the club’s website.

“I think he’s been in really good form over the last few weeks and he’s been scoring goals.”

“He’s full of confidence and today he had a sore back, so he couldn’t start the game, but he came on and won the game for us, which is massively important.”

Arsenal will be looking to make it a third successive league win when they take on a struggling West Brom side at the weekend. The first league game of 2021 for both sides.
