Mario Balotelli’s former teammate at AC Milan revealed behind the scenes bits and pieces about the Italian striker’s footballing career.

It was about time we heard some story about the famous Mario Balotelli and his football career. This time, we have an ex-teammate talking about the Italian international’s time during his days at AC Milan. Alongside his period at Rossoneri, the 30-year-old has served for Inter Milan, Manchester City, and Liverpool during his 15-year career.

At Milan, one of his colleagues was the Japanese midfielder, Keisuke Honda. The 34-year-old opened up about his relationship with Balotelli and how he fared at the club. As improbable as it may seem, Honda revealed that the Italian lacked the quality of consistency to push his unbelievable talent.

Life at San Siro.

The former Milan star talked about Balotelli to Gazzetta Dello Sport: “A huge talent, yet he did nothing to improve. I wanted to change his daily routine: ‘Mario, trust me. If you want to become the best you have to train hard.’ He looked at me with a straight face and the next day he showed up at the gym 40 minutes before the session. Also the following day. By the third, he was already bored. That’s Mario.”

The striker showed impressive football during his initial season at Milan after arriving from Manchester City for €20 million in January 2013. Mario managed to net 26 goals in his first 43 appearances at the Italian outfit. He then moved back to the Premier League with Liverpool, but could not live up to his billing with the Reds. As a result, Balotelli was sent back to Milan on loan just after one campaign at Anfield.
