The Norwegian has a contract at Old Trafford until 2024, but it’ll be a surprise if he lasts that long given the plight of his team.

A defeat against Leicester City on Saturday saw Manchester United stumble in a third successive Premier League game.

Manchester United’s form is not the one that can be associated with a team contending for trophies as they have managed just a single win in their last five matches across all competitions.

Their squad is not the most perfect one but it most certainly isn’t the problem. The Red Devils roster is the one that most top teams can only dream of, with serial winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, world-class players Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, and exciting talents Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in it.

Social media is an excellent aggregator of public opinions, and given that #OleOut was recently trending on Twitter, the fans think they know what is the problem at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t been able to deliver trophies in his three-year stint at the club so far and, especially given how things are at the moment, it won’t be far-fetched to say the club could decide to part ways with him.

Should Solskjaer be relieved of his duties, the following three names could be in the frame for one of the most high-profile jobs in football:

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte needs no introduction. The Italian is richly experienced, has an elite pedigree, and is no stranger to success around Europe.

A tactical genius, the 52-year-old knows English football very well, having led Chelsea to Premier League and FA Cup glory in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Conte is currently out of job, having left Inter Milan in the summer due to disagreements with the board, and could make an ideal successor to Solskjaer at the Theatre of Dreams.

Zinedine Zidane

Just like Conte, Zinedine Zidane is also readily available, although whether he’d be open to moving to England is a different question.

The Frenchman proved during his managerial stints at Real Madrid that he’s as good a coach as he was a player. He led Real Madrid to three successive Champions League titles and two La Liga trophies, among other honors.

If instant success is what Manchester United are after, Zidane would be a logical choice to replace Solskjaer.

Erik Ten Hag

Erik Ten Hag might not be as prominent and highly regarded as the other two on this list but he does know how to win.

The Dutchman has guided Ajax to two Eredivisie titles, as many KNVB Cups, a Johan Cruijff Schaal, and a Champions League semi-final, earning admirers around Europe in the process.

The 51-year-old plays an attacking, flowing football and is well-versed in getting the best out of young players – something that could be tempting for the Red Devils given their attacking philosophy and the fact that they have several unpolished gems in their squad.
