The defending champions enjoyed more of the ball after the break while the league leaders dominated play in the opening 45 minutes.

Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday night.

Atletico took the lead at the 15-minute mark through Luis Suarez, who produced an exquisite outside-of-the-boot finish to score his 17th goal of the La Liga campaign.

It looked like a fifth league defeat was set to be inflicted on Real Madrid as they still trailed with only two minutes of normal time remaining.

However, Karim Benzema, who was playing his first match after a spell on the sidelines, made sure his side do not walk away empty-handed by scoring a late equalizer.

The 1-1 result also ensured that Los Blancos continue their record of being unbeaten at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“The first half was theirs and the second was ours,” said Zidane assessing the match, via Marca. “In the end, the good and most important thing is to have a second half like we did.”

Zidane added on the title race: “Our goal is to keep going. We know there’s a long way to go and we’re going to fight until the end. Things can always change.

“We know that we can improve. The most important thing was playing better in the second half.”
