The January transfer window has finally closed, and it’s time to take a look at the clubs that did the best business over the past month.

Which teams strengthened their squads the most? Who managed to balance their books while improving their lineup? Let’s dive into our top six winners of the 2025 January transfer window.

5. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)

PSG made a big splash by signing one of the most exciting talents in European football, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli for €70 million. The Georgian winger is expected to elevate PSG, especially in the Champions League.

The Parisian club also made smart financial moves. They balanced their books by selling Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for €50 million, a fee that could rise to €81 million with add-ons. Additionally, they earned €3.6 million from the loan of Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus and offloaded Milan Škriniar and Marco Asensio on loan to Fenerbahçe and Aston Villa, respectively.

4. Juventus

Juventus had a strong window, addressing key areas in their squad. They beat Tottenham and Aston Villa to sign Randal Kolo Muani on loan, and he has already hit the ground running with three goals in his first two appearances.

In defense, they faced injury crises with Bremer and Pierre Kalulu sidelined and Danilo leaving for Brazil. Their response? They signed Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth for €20 million and secured Renato Veiga on loan from Chelsea.

Juventus tried to sign Ronald Araújo from Barcelona, but the Uruguayan opted to renew his contract.

3. Fenerbahçe

José Mourinho’s side was one of the busiest teams in the window. They signed Diego Carlos from Aston Villa for €10 million, Talisca from Al Nassr, and Milan Škriniar on loan from PSG. These additions strengthen their defense, attack, and midfield, making them a formidable force in Turkey and Europe.

2. Manchester City

After a rough patch in form, Manchester City went into the market aggressively. They secured Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens, Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, and Nico González from Porto, covering their needs in attack, defense, and midfield.

City also welcomed Claudio Echeverri after his loan spell at River Plate and offloaded Kyle Walker, whose form had been declining. This well-rounded approach earns them second place.

1. Aston Villa

Aston Villa takes the top spot as the biggest winner of the January transfer window. They made significant signings while still managing to turn a profit.

They signed:

  • Donyell Malen (Dortmund) – €25 million
  • Marco Asensio (Loan from PSG)
  • Axel Disasi (Loan from Chelsea)
  • Marcus Rashford (Loan from Man United, with United covering part of his wages)
  • Andrés García (Levante)

On the sales side, they sold Jaden Philogene to Ipswich Town for €23.7 million, Diego Carlos to Fenerbahçe for €10 million, and Douglas Luiz to Al Nassr for €77 million. Despite all their signings, they still ended the window with a profit.

They also offloaded Emi Buendía (loan to Leverkusen) and Samuel Iling-Junior (loan to Middlesbrough) while successfully resisting a €60 million bid for Ollie Watkins from Arsenal.
