Rodri scored a late equalizer as City narrowly escaped a home defeat against the Blues.
Manchester City drew 1-1 with Chelsea in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Citizens dropped crucial points as Chelsea made an impressive display at Etihad.
What happened?
Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez missed two goalscoring opportunities early on, but it was Chelsea who had the majority of the first half’s clear-cut chances.
Ederson made two excellent saves to deny Nicholas Jackson and Raheem Sterling, but the latter finally broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute.
Following a lightning-quick counter-attack, the former Man City star latched onto a pass from Jackson before making it 1-0 with a cool finish inside the box.
Surprisingly, it was Chelsea who found a better start to the second period despite City’s need to get back into the game. The Blues, however, lacked enough attacking edge to double their lead, allowing City to grow into the game in the final 20 minutes.
City’s growing pressure finally paid off when Rodri blasted a loose ball into the roof of the net in the 83rd minute. The Citizens pushed hard to complete their comeback in the extra time but failed to convert their chances.
Man City vs Chelsea: Man of the Match
