The Reds reclaimed their top spot in the Premier League with an easy win over Burnley.
Liverpool defeated Burnley 3-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s side returned to winning ways with a solid attacking display at Anfield.
What happened?
Liverpool’s shaky start to the game provided several chances for Burnley to snatch an opener. But it was the hosts who broke the deadlock through Diogo Jota just after the half-hour mark.
The Clarets refused to spend the remainder of the first period inside their own half, finally scoring the equalizer just before the half-time whistle.
Dara O’Shea’s excellent header brought the visitors back into the game, but Liverpool established their dominance over the game when the second half began.
Luis Diaz restored Liverpool’s lead only seven minutes after the break, forcing Burnley to put more bodies forward as they searched for a second equalizer.
The Clarets forced Caoimhin Kelleher to make a few crucial saves, but Liverpool secured their victory with another goal in the 79th minute. This time, a brilliant cross from Harvey Elliot was headed home by Darwin Nunez. Who made it 3-1 for the hosts.
The victory sends Liverpool back to EPL’s summit, where they sit two points above Manchester City. Next up, the Reds will face Brentford in a league game on February 17.
