Liverpool are only a few months away from the post-Klopp era but they are yet to decide on their next manager.
Former Premier League star Cesc Fabregas believes Xabi Alonso has the “right personality” to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s shocking announcement of his upcoming departure from Liverpool has left the club in search of a suitable replacement. Several high-profile managers are already linked with the managerial job at Anfield, with Alonso being among the main candidates.
The Spaniard’s lack of elite-level coaching experience has raised doubts about his readiness to step into the high-pressure role of managing a club of Liverpool’s caliber. But Fabregas believes his former teammate has already proven himself as the right choice to succeed Klopp.
“Alonso does different things. He’s capable of adapting to the situation and to different types of players he’s got and he’s got the right mentality,” Fabregas told the Planet Premier League podcast.
“He’s young, but the good thing about him is that he’s got very clear ideas. He’s an intelligent, stable guy and has the right personality.
“So it’s a big shout, but I agree that he [would be] able to do it.”
Alonso is reportedly open to accepting a potential offer from Liverpool. However, he has refused to comment on the prospect of returning to Anfield in the summer.
“Speculations are normal, but my focus is Bayer Leverkusen,” the former Liverpool star told reporters earlier this week. “I am very happy right now with my players in Leverkusen.”
