Despite reports linking Jose Mourinho with a surprise move to Napoli, Fabrizio Romano has explained why that won’t be possible this season.
The reports linking Jose Mourinho to Napoli are ‘nothing’ as he cannot coach the club this season, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Mourinho is a free agent after losing his job at AS Roma last week. The 60-year-old has already rejected an approach from Saudi Arabian team Al Shabab. There have also been widespread reports linking him with reigning Italian champions Napoli, who are currently coached by Walter Mazzarri.
“Despite reports, Mourinho can’t become Napoli manager for this season due to Italian rules, so there’s nothing to those stories,” Romano said on CaughtOffside.
“In the summer, we will see what happens, it’s still a long way to go and Napoli have not decided anything on their new head coach so far. It will take time for Napoli to choose, and Mourinho is also not in a rush, he will take some time to decide his next step.”
In 138 matches, Mourinho secured 68 victories, 30 draws, and 40 defeats as Roma’s manager. He led the club to Europa Conference League glory and back-to-back European finals in his two-and-a-half-year spell.
