The Liverpool star is motivated to continue their tournament after a short spell on the sidelines.

Mohamed Salah has urged his Egypt teammates to stay focused despite their slow start to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Egypt started the tournament with back-to-back 2-2 draws against Mozambique and Ghana. The worst news came in the second match, where Salah limped off the pitch with a hamstring issue just before the half-time whistle.

In his first interview since the injury, Salah opened up on his dream of winning the AFCON with Egypt.

“I would love to win it, absolutely. I have won everything possible but this one not yet,” the Liverpool superstar told reporters.

“It will happen somehow, that is what I believe, and whatever I believe I achieve, so sooner or later it will happen. Everybody knows what it means to any player to win an Africa Cup.”

He added: “We are not doing great at the moment but we have a fantastic team and a great coach, so we just need to stay focused. I believe that with hard work everything is possible.”

Egypt will face Cape Verde in their final group-stage match on Monday. Salah is expected to make his return to the pitch after AFCON’s last-16 round.
