Mohamed Salah scored a last-minute goal to salvage a point for the Pharaohs in their AFCON opener.

Mozambique held Egypt to a 2-2 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations match on Sunday. The Pharaohs made a slow start to their AFCON campaign despite dominating the game.

What happened?

Egypt started the game on a brilliant note, scoring the opener in the second minute. Mostafa Mohamed slotted a powerful low shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for his side.

The Pharaohs remained in charge of the game throughout the first period but failed to create enough serious chances. Things changed, however, as soon as the second period began.

Mozambique’s excellent start after the break saw them score the equalizer through Witi’s header in the 55th minute. The underdogs then shocked Egypt with a second goal, completing their comeback only three minutes later. This time, a spectacular run from Clesio Bauque caught the Egyptians by surprise as he made it 2-1 for Mozambique.

Egypt regained control over the possession as they pushed to escape defeat in their opening game in the tournament. However, the Pharaohs had to wait until the 97th minute to finally make it 2-2 through Mohamed Salah’s penalty.
