The Blues have recalled one of their promising young players after a disastrous loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have recalled midfielder Andrey Santos from his loan at Nottingham Forest.
The Premier League club confirmed Santos’ return on Wednesday after a disappointing loan. They did not mention any future plans for the player, who is yet to make his Blues debut after his €12.5 million move from Brazilian team Vasca da Gama in 2023.
Why is Santos back at Chelsea?
Santos joined Forest in the summer, but didn’t break into the team. The 19-year-old only played two games for the club, one in the Premier League and one in the EFL Cup.
Forest’s decision to replace manager Steve Cooper with Nuno Espirito Santo in December did not help Santos. The Brazilian midfielder didn’t even make the bench for any of Santos’ first three games.
So, he is now back at Chelsea, and with the club, he will assess the best route to continue his development.
Will Santos leave on loan again?
According to the Evening Standard, Santos can only go on loan to another English team. That’s because of FIFA rules, as Chelsea already have seven players on loan abroad.
The Blues, who have had a series of injuries this season, may opt to play him. But if that happens, Santos won’t be allowed to go on loan to another team.
