The Danish striker failed to make an impact as United slipped to eighth spot on the Premier League table.
Manchester United lost 2-0 against West Ham in their Premier League game on Saturday. Another poor display from United’s attacking line saw them stay goalless for the fourth game in a row.
Rasmus Hojlund’s wait to score his first goal in the Premier League continues as the Danish star struggles to find his place in Erik ten Hag’s attacking setup. Against West Ham, Hojlund ended the game with zero shots as he spent another uneventful evening as United’s target striker.
Last month, Paul Scholes blamed Hojlund’s fellow Man Utd teammates for his goalscoring struggles, telling Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel: “They’ve almost got one now, who is a 20-year-old kid who has come without a real proven goalscoring track record. He needs help.
“Fernandes needs to play in that No.10 position more, he needs to get closer to him, he needs to help him, he needs to try and find some kind of partnership while the pressure is on him.”
The United legend added: “You’ve got Marcus Rashford who just wants to cut inside and shoot, you’ve got Antony playing at times, (Alejandro) Garnacho, they’re almost trying to be goalscoring wide players – who, at the minute, aren’t scoring goals. But they don’t provide crosses either.”
Scholes’ remarks were proven right in United’s 2-0 defeat against West Ham, as Hojlund received only one pass from fellow forwards Antony and Alejandro Garnacho throughout the game.
Hojlund’s lack of Premier League goals has put him under pressure in recent weeks, but other United forwards have also struggled to deliver this season. Antony hasn’t scored or provided an assist in his last 19 appearances for the Red Devils, while Marcus Rashford has scored only two goals across all competitions this season.
