The former Liverpool midfielder has made a confident prediction ahead of this weekend’s Premier League showdown against Arsenal.

Danny Murphy thinks Arsenal will play right into Liverpool’s hands when the two teams face off on Saturday.

Last season, Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw at Anfield. The Gunners have not beaten Liverpool away in the Premier League since September 2012. That’s a run of 10 games without a victory. Seven of these matches ended in a defeat, while the other three were draws.

Despite this barren record, Murphy expects Arsenal to chase all three points, rather than play it safe, as Manchester United did in last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool.

“I think it’s a bigger surprise if Arsenal win there than if Liverpool beat Arsenal, especially with their record there,” Murphy said on Vibe with Five.

“Even last year they went 2-0 up and threw it away and should’ve lost.

“I don’t think if either loses you can write them off completely. I think it’s a bigger game for Liverpool after the United game to actually send a message.

“I think for Liverpool in terms of confidence, Arsenal you can see what they’re doing and they’ve only lost two.

“But they’ve been close and gave [Aston] Villa their best game. For Liverpool, it’s really important and I don’t see them losing, they won’t lose.

“Arsenal won’t shut up shop. Who is going to stop [Mohamed] Salah? [Oleksandr] Zinchenko is a terrific footballer but he’s not as good defensively as [Takehiro] Tomiyasu.

“Both ways Arsenal have a go and I see goals but when teams come to Anfield and have a go, Liverpool end up on top, hence they’ve not lost there this season.”
