Despite showing flashes of promise since his summer move from Atalanta, Rasmus Hojlund has failed to score a goal in 12 Premier League games so far.
Antony and Alejandro Garnacho share some blame for Rasmus Hojlund’s goal struggles according to former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen.
Despite scoring five goals in six Champions League games, Hojlund has yet to score or assist in the Premier League. The €75 million summer signing’s most recent performances have been below par. In fact, during Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, he didn’t make a single touch of the ball inside the box.
“I thought he [Hojlund] was way short [against Bayern]. Against those defenders, he never got a kick,” Meulensteen said in an interview with talkSPORT.
“But the problem is he is flanked by two individual players [Antony and Garnacho] who have no intention to give him any kind of service because they want to create things for themselves and not help any striker.
“So there’s an imbalance, and that imbalance is going forward but also going back to the defensive shape which we’ve seen in so many games.”
Hojlund will hope to open his Premier League goal account on Sunday when United visit Liverpool at Anfield.
