Greenwood restarted his football career after joining Getafe in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reportedly shown interest in signing Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood.
The Red Devils suspended Greenwood after allegations of assault and attempted rape emerged against him in January 2022. The 22-year-old was ultimately cleared of all charges, but United decided against reintegrating him into their squad for the 2023-24 season.
A loan move to Getafe has provided the English star with enough playing time and exposure for a possible move to an elite side.
According to talkSPORT, both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have sent scouts to watch Greenwood’s performances for Getafe. A return to United is unlikely, as Getafe are also interested in keeping Greenwood in their ranks. The Madrid side will claim 20% of any transfer fee that United could possibly receive for the English star next summer.
United are not in the best position to start negotiations for Greenwood’s possible sale. The buyers know the Red Devils are under pressure to offload the youngster next summer. However, competition between Atletico and Barcelona could help the English giants get a better deal for his permanent transfer.
