The Red Devils have come under pressure after another disappointing display at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial was booed during Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Starting Martial ahead of Rasmus Hojlund was one of Erik Ten Hag’s unexpected choices for United’s starting lineup against the Cherries. The Frenchman failed to make an impact as he registered only one shot on target.
When Martial was subbed off for Hojlund in the 55th minute, fans booed him for the second time this season. However, Ten Hag believes the 28-year-old doesn’t lack enough quality to play for the Red Devils.
“Two weeks ago against Everton he played a very good game!” Ten Hag told reporters.
“So he has absolutely the competencies and the abilities to play so I don’t think it’s fair, after a performance like this, to go to one player now. As a group we failed, altogether.”
Ten Hag himself is under fire for his side’s inconsistent displays this season. United have lost seven of their 16 Premier League matches this season while being on the verge of elimination in the group stage of the Champions League.
The Red Devils will face Bayern Munich in a crucial UCL match on Tuesday before returning to the Premier League with a game against Liverpool five days later.
