The Citizens failed to win a home game for the first time in 2023.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised his side’s performance in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
The Citizens dominated the first half at Etihad, getting 1-0 ahead through Erling Haaland’s goal in the 27th minute. The Citizens went on to miss a number of chances after the break, allowing Liverpool to come back with a late equalizer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s brilliant low shot saw City drop points for the second Premier League game in a row. However, that wasn’t enough to change Guardiola’s stance on his side’s display.
“Maybe we missed the last pass a little bit, but they defended really well. To concede just two shots on target against Liverpool is a big compliment for the way we work,” the Man City manager said.
“That was an excellent performance. I am really proud that after eight years we are still playing that way. We were really good in all departments and needed to be against an incredible team.”
Man City’s draw allows Arsenal to leapfrog them from the top of the league table by possibly beating Brentford later today. The Citizens will return to the Champions League to face RB Leipzig on Tuesday before taking on Tottenham five days later.
