Chelsea star Nicholas Jackson paid homage to his childhood idol Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring his first career hat-trick in a thrilling 4-1 victory against Tottenham earlier this month.

The Senegalese striker’s third goal prompted a sprint towards the Chelsea faithful, where he unleashed the iconic ‘Siu’ celebration famously associated with the Portuguese legend.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Jackson shared the origins of his admiration for Ronaldo, recounting a childhood marked by poverty and love for the beautiful game.

“When I was growing up, I loved Cristiano Ronaldo,” Jackson said. “I had his name on a shirt that I always wore. Not an actual shirt because they are expensive, so you don’t buy them. But I had a shirt that I put 7, Ronaldo on with a pen. I did it myself when I was a kid.

“Of course, I would pretend to be him, but it was difficult to watch his games because you needed to pay. We would go to my friend’s house, everybody.”

Since his summer transfer from Villarreal, Jackson has been in scintillating form, notching up 17 goals across all competitions for Chelsea.

The Blues will return to Premier League action with a match against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
