The Tottenham and Chelsea game had five disallowed goals, two dismissals, and nine VAR reviews, yet Mark Clattenburg thinks the referee only made ONE wrong decision.

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes the match officials of the Tottenham and Chelsea game only made one mistake.

On Monday, Tottenham crashed to a 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea. The London derby had five disallowed goals. Spurs lost Cristiano Romero and Destiny Udogie to red cards, leaving them down to nine men.

The referee, Michael Oliver, gave Romero his marching orders in the first half for a dangerous challenge. Udogie followed the Argentine out in the second period after getting a second yellow card in a battle with Raheem Sterling for the ball.

Yet, Clattenburg reckons Udogie was lucky to escape a red card in the first half for a forceful lunge at Sterling.

“Destiny Udogie was lucky for two reasons,” Clattenburg said to the Daily Mail.

“One, because Raheem Sterling pulled his leg away to prevent a serious injury.

“Two, because Brooks did not tell Oliver that this challenge was worthy of a red. Udogie was airborne, leading with two feet, with studs showing. It is precisely this type of challenge which needs outlawing from football.”

Clattenburg refereed the famous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ in 2016. In that match, Chelsea made a comeback against Tottenham, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The result ended Spurs’ hopes of winning the Premier League.

There were also 13 yellow cards given out during the game.
