Real Madrid failed to maintain their place at the top of the La Liga table.

Rayo Vallecano held Real Madrid to a goalless draw in their La Liga game on Sunday. The Blancos failed to convert their chances as they dropped two points on home soil.

What happened?

Real Madrid established their dominance over the possession only a few minutes into the game. But Federico Valverde and Alvaro Garcia failed to convert their golden chances to put the Blancos ahead.

As the first half went on, Rayo slowly found their feet in the game while Stole Dimitrievski made an excellent save to prevent Joselu from scoring the opener.

The same trend continued after the break, with Vinicius and Valverde missing two more chances for the hosts. The Blancos maintained the pressure on Rayo’s backline, but they became more and more exhausted as the second half went on.

Rodrygo came close to finding the back of the net with a cheeky back-heel shot in the 93rd minute. But Dimitrievski made another save to secure Rayo’s point at Santiago Bernabeu. With this result, Girona continue leading the La Liga table, as they sit two points above Real Madrid.
