The most prestigious individual honor in world football will be re-organized from 2024 onward.
The famous Ballon d’Or, the top football individual prize, is teaming up with UEFA from next year. This partnership follows a seven-year gap after FIFA’s involvement.
Starting in 2024, Groupe Amaury, publisher of France Football and L’Equipe, will jointly organize the Ballon d’Or awards and ceremony. This collaboration is set to outrank FIFA and its own ‘The Best’ awards, which has been running since 2016.
As a result, UEFA will drop its player of the year awards. The European governing body, however, will introduce player of the season awards for its club competitions.
UEFA and Groupe Amaury will also launch new prizes for the best coaches in men’s and women’s football.
On Monday in Paris, Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati won the most recent editions of the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or awards.
