Rensch has maintained his impressive form despite Ajax’s disappointing start to the season.
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Ajax defender Devyne Rensch.
The Merseyside club is scouting for potential right-back signings who can seamlessly fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system while also providing cover in various defensive roles.
According to Football Insider, Rensch is high on the recruitment list for Liverpool, with Arsenal also keeping a watchful eye on the young talent.
The 20-year-old is the primary right-back for Ajax and has already accumulated 101 first-team appearances for the Dutch powerhouse. This season, he has contributed with a single assist in nine games across all competitions, although an injury has sidelined him for the last three matches.
Rensch’s versatility is a notable attribute, as he can perform effectively in multiple positions, including centre-back, defensive midfield, and left-back, though he mainly plays at right-back. The Dutchman’s experience in European competitions is also noteworthy, with 19 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.
Rensch, who’s under contract at Ajax until June 2025, made his first senior appearance for the Netherlands in September 2021. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent fitness and form inconsistency makes Rensch an ideal candidate for Liverpool’s squad.
It’s unlikely for Ajax to allow Rensch’s exit this January, given their critical situation on the Eredivisie table. But Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to intensify their efforts to bring the young defender to the Premier League next summer.
