Reports have linked Taylor Swift with a shock move to buy the world’s oldest football club.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift’s rumoured interest in buying Notts County, a League Two club, has been met with a lighthearted response from the club’s owners.

Following the high-profile takeover of Wrexham by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the idea of celebrities buying lower-league football clubs gained attention. However, Notts County’s owners, Alex and Chris Reedtz, put an end to the speculation with a witty statement.

The report linking Taylor Swift to a potential purchase of the world’s oldest football club appeared in the Weekend Sport newspaper, featuring the headline “Star wants world’s oldest footy club – Taylor Swift to buy Notts County!”

While the idea may have excited some fans, the Reedtz brothers made it clear that they weren’t about to relinquish control of the club.

The club’s chairmen wrote: “As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swifties in our fanbase, were going to have to shake this story off. there’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor [Swift].

“But, at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams that we would relinquish our control. We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match playlist for a track from her newly re-released 1989 album as a gesture of gratitude for her interest.”

Fans had mixed reactions, with some acknowledging the financial benefits Swift’s involvement could bring and others recalling a past high-profile takeover that didn’t end well for the club.
