The Ajax star ended up joining West Ham despite having an offer from Chelsea.
Mohammed Kudus agent Jennifer Mendelewitsch has blamed Chelsea for his client’s collapsed move to Stamford Bridge.
Kudus was on Chelsea’s radar for a summer move after spending a fantastic 2022-23 campaign at Ajax. The Blues seemed close to completing a move for the Ghana international but were outbid by West Ham, who signed him for £38m.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Mendelewitsch revealed Kudus was in direct contact with Mauricio Pochettino.
“We agreed contract with Chelsea but deal didn’t happen,” the agent said. “Kudus talked with the coach but in the end it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.”
Chelsea spent around £417m on new signings this summer, including a record-breaking £115m move for Moises Caicedo. Mendelewitsch believes the midfielder’s transfer made the Blues too conservative toward the end of the transfer window.
“There was no counter-offer. Chelsea did this to lots of players this summer,” she added.
“They did with very low offers knowing they wouldn’t be accepted. The truth is that they were completely taken by the transfer of Caicedo.”
