The Reds were left furious after a “significant” VAR error denied them a goal against the Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp called for Liverpool’s controversial match against Tottenham to be replayed due to refereeing errors.
Liverpool thought they had an opener when Luis Diaz found the back of the net from a tight angle in the first half. VAR went on to rule out the goal for offside, only for PGMOL to admit they made a “significant human error” post-match.
On Tuesday, the conversation between the referee and the officials was released. But that wasn’t enough to calm Klopp’s frustration.
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, the Liverpool manager suggested a replay of the game could be the best solution.
“I think the situation is that unprecedented that it didn’t happen before,” Klopp said. “Something like that, as far as I can remember, never happened that’s why I think a replay would be the right thing.
“If it would happen again then I think the replay would be the right thing to do, or the ref has the opportunity to bring both coaches together and say ‘sorry we made a mistake but we can sort it, let Liverpool score a goal and we start from there’.”
Will the game be replayed?
The Premier League are yet to react to calls for a possible replay of the game. However, according to the PA news agency, the league officials are not interested in considering such an option.
BBC reporter Simon Stone has also ruled out a rematch between Liverpool and Tottenham, writing on X: “To be clear, no chance of Premier League actually granting Liverpool a replay. That was position in immediate aftermath and not changed.”
