After a lackluster start to the current campaign, Rangers have opted to end Michael Beale’s second spell at Ibrox.
Former Rangers manager Michael Beale has thanked everyone at the club and urged the fans to support his replacement, Steven Davis.
On Sunday, Rangers parted ways with Beale following Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. The defeat amplified the growing calls for the 43-year-old Englishman’s departure. His squad revamp and new signings failed to impress.
Taking to Instagram after news of his dismissal, Beale wrote: “Thank you Rangers, to everyone behind the scenes at the training ground and Ibrox, to the board, staff, fans and all the players.
“I will always follow and support the club from afar and wish you every success. Now is the time for everyone to unite fully behind Steven Davis and the team in the coming games. There is still so much to play for this season and I have a strong belief in this group of players. Thank you and good luck. MB”
Steven Davis takes over in an interim role
Beale took the helm in November 2022, succeeding Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The former QPR manager departs with a record of 30 wins, four draws, and eight defeats in 42 matches.
It was his second spell at Ibrox, having previously worked as an assistant under Steven Gerrard between June 2018 and November 2021.
In a statement, Rangers announced Steven Davis will take over from Beale in an interim role. The midfielder’s contract expired last season, most of which he missed through an ACL injury. He remained at Ibrox after the club granted him facility access for rehabilitation.
The 38-year-old will boast a coaching staff consisting of Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour, and Colin Stewart.
As things stand, Rangers find themselves in third place in the Scottish Premiership standings. The Gers trail leaders Celtic by seven points, having won four of their seven games (L3) this season.
They will next face Aris Limassol in Cyprus in a Europa League Group C game on Thursday.
