Germany announce their new manager after Hansi Flick exit

12 days since the dismissal of Hansi Flick, Germany have appointed the same man who replaced their former coach at Bayern Munich.

The German Football Association (DFB) has officially named Julian Nagelsmann as the new manager of Germany’s national football team.

Nagelsmann succeeds Hansi Flick, who left following a string of disappointing results. The 36-year-old ‘s appointment comes as Germany gear up to host the European Championship finals in the summer of 2024.

The new Germany manager expressed his enthusiasm for the role, promising a “close-knit” team for next summer’s tournament.

In his own words, he said: “We have a European Championship in our own country. That’s something special – something that happens every few decades. I have a great desire to take on this challenge. We will be a close-knit group next year.”

Nagelsmann, widely regarded as one of football’s most promising managerial talents, last coached Bayern Munich before his abrupt departure in March. It’s worth noting that he had also taken over from Flick at the German club in June 2021

His first task at the helm will be to guide Germany through a series of matches during a US tour. The team is scheduled to face the United States on October 14th in Hartford, Connecticut. This is followed by a clash against Gold Cup champions Mexico in Philadelphia three days later.

Wrapping up the year, Germany will take on Austria in Vienna on November 21st.
