Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has some thoughts on how Erik ten Hag can improve the team.
Erik ten Hag needs to discipline Casemiro more to extract the Manchester United midfielder’s best level of performance, according to Dwight Yorke.
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for Manchester United. Ten Hag has faced issues both on and off the field. The latest one is with Jadon Sancho, who will train on his own after he refused to apologize for accusing the manager of making him a ‘scapegoat’.
But Yorke thinks Ten Hag’s troubles don’t end there. He thinks the Dutchman needs to have a word with Casemiro and remind the Brazilian of his defensive duties.
“Casemiro had a great debut season where he scored some crucial games and I think he’s getting a bit carried away by venturing forward too much,” Yorke explained to Genting Casino.
“He’s supposed to be the anchor in midfield, but I keep seeing him in advanced positions.”
“I think the manager needs to tell him to stay in the number six position,” the former Red Devils striker added.
“He doesn’t have the energy to track back so often, and that’s why you’re seeing United being overwhelmed in the middle of the park. I’d say more discipline is needed as we all know how good he is when he plays in his natural position.”
Manchester United will face Brighton on Saturday in the Premier League.
