Can any club stop Man City from winning a fourth straight Premier League crown? David Silva can only think of one team that might pose a threat.
David Silva believes only Arsenal can threaten Manchester City in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners were ahead of Man City in the title battle for much of last season, before a late dip in form saw them slip five points back in a second-place finish. They’ve strengthened in the summer, notably pipping Pep Guardiola’s side to the signing of Declan Rice.
“This is Pep’s eighth season at City. The first year he was getting used to the Premier League, but now they are almost unstoppable,” Silva told the Mirror.
“Arsenal are the only team I can see who maybe have a chance of challenging City. The rest? I don’t think they can.”
Silva remarks on the treble achievement
Silva, who retired in the summer, enjoyed a historic 10-year spell at the Etihad. He made 436 appearances, scoring 77 goals and making 140 assists between 2010 and 2020.
The former midfielder won 13 trophies in Manchester, including four Premier League titles.
He never won the Champions League, but was happy to see his old club achieve their long-held aim of European glory last season on their way to a remarkable treble.
“I watched nearly all of City’s games in the Champions League last season,” Silva added.
“I couldn’t win it when I was there, but I’m so happy for the club that they were finally able to do it.
“They deserve it. The club deserves it, the supporters deserve to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – the Treble. It was an amazing achievement.”
