A hamstring injury has kept the Chelsea newboy on the sidelines in recent weeks.

Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia is not part of Belgium’s squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers as he continues to work on his comeback.

The defensive midfielder suffered a hamstring injury before completing his £58m move to Chelsea. The Blues are set for a massive squad boost with Lavia’s return after the international break.

According to football.london, Lavia could make his Chelsea debut against Bournemouth on September 17.

Chelsea’s official website confirmed Lavia’s “partial return” earlier this month as he started training at Cobham. The midfielder is expected to complete his rehab process over the next two weeks.

Lavia’s versatility makes it difficult to guess where Mauricio Pochettino will use him. However, a three-man midfield trio of Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo seems to be the most exciting option.

A ball-winning midfielder, Lavia could make an instant impact as Chelsea struggles for defensive stability. The Blues have started the new Premier League season with only one victory from four games, conceding five goals.

After the international break, the Blues will take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium before hosting Aston Villa on September 24. Pochettino’s men will then have a tough Carabao Cup match against Brighton, who have found a brilliant start to the new season.
