The Catalans clinched a hard-fought victory in their new home stadium.
Barcelona defeated Cadiz 2-0 to register their first victory in the 2023-24 season. Late goals from Pedri and Ferran Torres helped Barca claim the three points at the Olympic stadium.
What happened?
Barcelona started off by quickly establishing their dominance over the possession. However, Xavi’s side failed to convert their chances as Jeremias Ledesma made two fantastic saves to deny Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.
Cadiz came close to surprising the hosts right after the break, but Barca reclaimed their control over the game. Despite dangerous counter-attacks from Cadiz, Barca increased the pressure on their opponents’ backline.
Their efforts finally paid off when Pedri made it 1-0 in the 82nd minute. A brilliant one-two between the Spaniard and Ilkay Gundogan resulted in Barca’s first goal of the new season.
The Catalans kept on attacking their opponents during the extra time, finally doubling their lead through Torress in the 94th minute. The Spain international received Robert Lewandowski’s header behind Cadiz’s backline. He then rushed forward down the middle and converted the one-on-one situation with a precise finish.
