La Liga 2023/2024 About to Start: Will Barcelona Win Another Title?

After two months of hiatus from La Liga, the Spanish top flight will return on August 11.

The opening match will be between Almeria and Rayo Vallecano. While the previous season was mostly one-sided as Barcelona won the league after three years of waiting, we think the 2023/2024 edition will be more challenging.

Overview of 2022/2023 La Liga Season

The previous season was Xavi’s first complete tenure as a head coach for Barcelona. The former player was appointed as a manager in December 2021 but did not achieve significant results. However, he managed to lead Barcelona to win the 27th La Liga title.

Real Madrid looked lacklustre throughout the season. While the duo of Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema were lethal, they were not enough to compete against Barcelona.

Real Sociedad were a real discovery. Imanol Alguacil’s side qualified for the Champions League. They managed to get the best of teams such as Villareal and Sevilla.

Major Favourites to Win the Title

It’s always difficult to predict the champions in advance, considering that the summer transfer window is still running. We have picked the favourites who have better chances to win the title in the 93rd edition of La Liga.

Barcelona

Barcelona have signed Ilkai Gundogan, Oriol Romeu and Inigo Martinez during the transfer window. The departures of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets will impact the squad, but Blaugranas have a lot of wonderkids such as Pedri and Gavi.

Robert Lewandowski might be in the twilight of his career, but the Polish forward is still capable of scoring plenty of goals. He became the top goalscorer with 23 goals in the previous season.

The defence was key to Barcelona’s success. If Xavi manages to maintain the same intensity, they will likely become champions for the second time in a row.

Real Madrid

The departure of Karim Benzema is a massive blow to the Madrid side. The French forward was undoubtedly the best player in the previous seasons. They are looking for his replacement and the most obvious candidate is another French superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Real have signed a wonderkid Jude Bellingham from Dortmund. It is still questionable how Carlo Ancelotti is going to fit Eduardo Camavina, Fede Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni all together, let alone Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Though, the squad is really powerful and will fight for the title.

Atletico Madrid

We should never ignore Atletico Madrid. They have won the La Liga title twice under Diego Simeone. However, competing against giants such as Barcelona and Real Madrid is always a difficult task.
