The Blues are on the verge of adding a new midfielder to their ranks.
Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Lesley Ugochukwu from Lille.
Since making his senior debut in 2019, Ugochukwu has established a reputation as one of the most promising midfielders in Ligue 1.
Last season, the 19-year-old made 26 league appearances for Lille as they finished fifth in Ligue 1. His stellar performances have convinced Chelsea to sign him this summer.
According to the Athletic, the Blues will pay around £23.5m to sign Ugochukwu.
The surprise deal comes amid Chelsea’s struggle to reach an agreement with Brighton for Moises Caicedo. The Seagulls reportedly demand £100m for the Ecuador international, rejecting two offers from Chelsea.
Despite Ugochukwu’s move, the Blues will most likely continue their pursuit of Caicedo. A possible agreement with Brighton will most likely see Ugochukwu spend the next season on loan. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are the favourites to secure the youngster’s services.
Following the departures of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante, Chelsea have started their efforts to bolster their midfield line. In addition to Ugochukwu, Ajax’s Mohammed Kudos and Roméo Lavia have emerged on the Blues’ radar in recent weeks.
