The Germany international, who swapped Chelsea for Arsenal in a £65 million deal this summer, took to social media to respond to his critics.
Kai Havertz has hit back at the Chelsea fans who made fun of his performance in the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge.
On Tuesday, Havertz failed to score in the cross-and-volley phase of the MLS All-Star Skills challenges. He had 14 attempts, but didn’t score once. This led fans of his old team, Chelsea, to mock him on social media.
But Havertz had the last laugh on Thursday. The German scored his first goal for Arsenal during a crushing 5-0 win over the MLS All-Stars. Ironically, he volleyed the ball into the back of the net in that game.
Later on social media, Havertz sent a short and pointed tweet to his critics. He followed it up with a second tweet underneath to express his gratitude to the fans for their support.
So far, Havertz has been playing in the attacking midfield position. That could change, though. Mikel Arteta has openly praised his new signing’s versatility, hinting he could play him in different roles. The Arsenal manager said that his quality and size will be valuable when beating the press and using him as a target man.
But in all seriousness.. Really nice feeling to get my first @arsenal goal! Thank you to the fans for the amazing support this week! pic.twitter.com/xKEn9UZ39f
