Jose Mourinho will miss AS Roma’s opening game of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign as a result of his suspension.
The Italian Football Federation has banned Jose Mourinho from the touchline for 10 days. The AS Roma manager must also pay a €50,000 fine for criticizing the referee after a league game against Monza in May.
Mourinho had worn a microphone during the 1-1 draw to “protect himself”. But he still made comments toward the referee, Daniele Chiffi, branding him as “the worst referee I have encountered in my career”.
This is not the first time Mourinho has clashed with the match officials. In fact, UEFA recently banned the Portuguese for four matches. The suspension was for his abusive language towards referee, Anthony Taylor, following the Europa League final in May. Roma lost the game 4-1 on penalties to Sevilla after the two teams finished 1-1 in Budapest.
The Serie A club has also been fined €50,000 for Mourinho’s comments.
