The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, Luka Modric, has extended his 11-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for another season.
Luka Modric, the Croatian playmaker who has won five Champions League titles and three LaLiga titles with Real Madrid, has extended his deal for another year. The 37-year-old midfielder would have been out of contract this summer. He could have left on a free transfer, but decided to stay with the Spanish giants instead. His latest contract will run until the end of June 2024.
Modric’s impressive skills have not gone unnoticed, and he was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, following in the footsteps of former teammate Karim Benzema. However, Real Madrid were not ready to let him go just yet, determined to retain a vital asset.
The club confirmed the new agreement on Monday, with a statement that read: “Real Madrid and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which remains linked to the club until June 30 2024.”
Modric himself announced his delight at the news, taking to Twitter to post the caption: “Home Sweet Home. #Modric2024”.
This is a great move for Real Madrid, as Modric’s experience and talent will undoubtedly be an asset to the team. Fans can look forward to watching him in action for at least another year, and who knows, maybe he’ll help them win another trophy or two!
